LGBTQ+ RESOURCES
While acceptance for LGBTQ populations is increasing these youths still experience increased risk of depression and suicide. This is due to chronic anxiety, resulting from surrounding people’s rejection, bullying or violence as responses towards their sexual orientation. Additionally their own sense of shame, loneliness, hopelessness, and identity-concealment efforts places these teens at an increased risk for depression.

-
LGBTQ youths of 7th-11th grades are twice as likely to commit suicide
-
61% of LGBTQ youths report feeling unsafe because of their orientations
-
40% of homeless LGBTQ youths are victims of familial rejection
-
LGBTQ youths experiencing rejection are at a six-fold risk of depression, and an eight-fold risk of attempted suicide, compared to LGBTQ youths suffering no or little rejection
-
With each episode of LGBTQ victimization comes a 2.5 times increased likelihood of self-harm on average
